Frequently Asked Questions for ALTAI A3

ALTAI A3 FAQs

1. Why do I need to buy Altai A3?

Ans: Altai A3 smart WiFi provides coverage for outdoor WiFi coverage and enhance the Altai indoor coverage solution. It combines IEEE 802.11a/b/g and Draft 802.11n to offer best WiFi access in different scenarios.

2. What throughput does Altai A3 provides from 802.11n?

Ans: Altai A3 smart WiFi can provides up to 300Mbps data rate to other 802.11n clients, so the throughput can be enhanced at 150Mbps per radio by adopting MIMO technology.

3. How many different Operation Modes in A3?

Ans: Access Point, Repeater and Bridge

Access point – For clients

Sta (Repeater mode) - 2.4 GHz for backhaul link

Bridge Mode – 5Ghz Backhaul

4. Does it provide SNMP?

Ans: Yes and it’s also compatible with its Altai Wireless Management System (AWMS) software

5. Can I Telnet?

Ans: Yes at port 2223 (default IP 192.168.1.20)

6. How many Network Operation Mode?

Ans In Switch mode,

=> VLAN can be configured

=> DHCPS, NAT and PPPoE are disabled

In Gateway mode

=> VLAN is disabled

=> DHCPS, NAT and PPPoE can be configured

7. Can Altai A3 act as DHCP server?

Ans: Yes it can but only in Gateway mode

8. Maximum clients it can support?

Ans: A value between the ranges from 0 to 256 can be filled in Maximum Clients blank. This feature can limit the total associated clients under the particular radio.

9. What is Radius Server?

Ans: RADIUS server is used for authentication. A3 smart WiFi can store separate RADIUS server address for each VAP. It is only visible when the Authentication Mode is set to “WPA”. The default setting of RADIUS server port is 1812. RADIUS secret shared password between the RADIUS server and A3 smart WiFi. A password up to 128 characters long can be added.

10. What is Maximum transmit Power?

Ans: The value of the Transmit Power depends on both the gain of the antenna and the Max Equivalent Isotropically Radiated Power (EIRP, evenly distributed power in all directions) allowed by the country in which A3 is used.

11. Bridge (Back-haul) Security?

Ans Yes. Different encryption methods provided.

12. What does Super Bridge Means?

Ans: There are 3 methods to describe it.

=> Compression: Frame is compressed by hardware before transmitting. Note that the compression may save bandwidth but would consume frame process time. In case the data is already compressed (e.g. mpeg frame), please do NOT turn on this function.

=> Bursting: Turning on Bursting function enables multiple frames are transmitted at SIFS intervals which may reduce transmission overhead. But this may increase packet error rate on the other side.

=> Fast Frame: Turning on Fast Frame function enables two Ethernet frames bundled into a single wireless frame.

13. Can I watch Client Statistics?

Ans: Yes, The clients association statistics can be monitored by selecting Clients Statistics under the field of Status in the menu bar. The Address Lease Table shows the Client MAC Address, Client IP Address of each end user.
